NGLFL NEWSLETTER
Hi everyone
It has been a rather fast and furious start to the season this year with a lot happening so I thought it might be wise to inform you of what is going on. The website and members’ meetings are two ways of communicating information but that relies on club secretaries and managers attending and feeding back or managers making time in their busy lives to check out the website.
CHANGES IN PERSONNEL
League Secretary
As you should be aware the League Secretary, Wayne Wright resigned from his position in October and I have been covering most of those duties since that time.
I am pleased to announce that we have a new League Secretary in Helen Horrey. Helen used to be the Treasurer a few years ago and is currently the U12 Match Controller. She brings a wealth of experience to the role and is currently a manager for Sherwood U11s too. We wish her well in her new role. All communication from members should now go through Helen. Her contact details are already on the Match Controllers info sheet or you can leave a message through the website. If you don’t get a prompt reply please be patient as she is still a match controller etc. and it will take a little time for her to find her feet.
Welfare Officer
I also need to make you aware that Joan Ward has resigned from her position as Welfare Officer for the League. Joan has been a pivotal part of the changes that have been made over the last 3 years and has brought a huge amount of integrity and commitment to girls’ football. A great deal of the processes and the way we do things are because of the hard work and long hours Joan put in. We will miss her greatly and wish her well in whatever she decides to take on next.
After asking for more volunteers at the last meeting we have managed to recruit a new Welfare Officer in Joanne Swinscoe. Jo is currently the U10s Match Controller and a manager with Calverton. Jo works with children in her work life so will bring a great deal of experience as well as her boundless enthusiasm to the role. Jo’s contact details are also on the Match Controllers info sheet in your managers’ pack.
U9s Development
As part of the League’s commitment to the development of girls’ football, we are pleased to have been able to secure the services of Gerry Ward who will be focusing on supporting and encouraging Clubs to develop teams at the U9 age group. As some of you will be aware, this age group has been struggling to keep up team numbers and Gerry, who is instrumental in the developments at Robin Hood Colts, will bring drive and determination to ensure our U9 League goes from strength to strength. Gerry’s contact details can also be found on the Match Controllers info sheet as U9 Match Controller. So, if you have a development squad in the making or are looking to start in the New Year get in touch so we can arrange some friendlies on an organised basis.
VACANCIES
Although we have filled the vital roles of secretary and welfare on the committee there are still some other areas where we need help.
Press and Publicity Officer
We are looking for someone to do some press and publicity for the league. At the moment we have none and there are so many things that we should be shouting about and great success stories to share. It would be good to get a weekly feature in the local paper too. Any help would be welcome on this front even if it is a contact we can use in the press.
Referees’ Secretary
I am currently the Referee’s secretary but cannot do the job justice with the amount of other work I am now involved with so that is a vacancy we need filling quickly.
Sponsorship and Funding Officer
Raising money through sponsorship is a massive task that needs urgent attention and we have made a small start but there is a long way to go before we can achieve our goals. So anyone who can spend a couple of hours a week contacting firms and putting together a league presentation pack would be most useful. There are grants from funding organisations that we can tap into too.
REPRESENTATIVE SQUADS
We are looking to run Rep Squads again this year and will need venues for trials and games as well as coaches to help in the selection process. If you have a venue that we could use or can spare 3 or 4 Saturdays in April/May to help in the trials then please get in touch. We already have had requests for games in Wales and Manchester which we are looking into as well as a home day tournament.
FA COACHING COURSE
Please see the attachment regards this one night course delivered by Andy Poole from the Fa. The training session will be from 6.30 till 9.30 on Thursday 3rd Dec at Calverton Miners welfare. Any of your coaches or managers are eligible and even if the theme of the night isn’t applicable to you I’m sure you will still get a great deal from the evening.
LADIES DAY AT NOTTS COUNTY
Notts County are giving away FREE tickets for all players in the Notts Girls League for their game on 9th January. Please see attached information. It is a fantastic opportunity to get the ground full of girls from our league representing our clubs in their team colours. I hope everyone takes this opportunity that has been so generously given to us by Notts County football club.
